Legal Assistant

Job Details:

Job Type: Full-time or Part Time
Office Hours: Monday to Friday 9am – 5:30 pm CST
Work Location: South Austin
Qualification and Experience:

  • Bilingual – English & Spanish, written and verbal (Required)

  • Experience in law office or administrative experience (strongly preferred)

Primary Job Responsibilities & Duties:

• Manage cases; 

• Manage scheduling and attorney calendar;

• Complete immigration forms;

• Translate documents from Spanish to English;

• Draft form letters;

• Manage client questionnaires;

• Meet with clients to help complete questionnaires;

• Request records from different agencies like criminal courts and immigration agencies;

• Conduct country conditions research;

• Write declarations based on attorney notes and client interviews;

• Submit case inquiries to government agencies;

• Make index of evidence collected;

• Data entry on programs and forms;

• Organize and manage electronic client case files;

• Prepare cases to be filed;

• Other tasks as needed.

Required Skills:

  • Must have excellent writing and communication skills (particular emphasis on good grammar and spelling);

  • Experience using Microsoft Office and related software; 

  • Familiarity with Dropbox and Google Drive; 

  • Will work with practice management software; 

  • Must be dependable, detail oriented and highly organized; 

  • Must be disciplined with time management and completion of tasks without the need to be micromanaged on all tasks; 

  • Must be able to meet strict deadlines; 

  • Self-starter is preferred. 

  • Team player and positive attitude. 

Required Skills:

High school diploma, G.E.D. (Required)

Higher education (Preferred)

Compensation & Benefits:

Compensation for this role is commensurate with experience. We provide flexible scheduling for part time workers. For full time workers, up to 2 weeks PTO offered with an additional week of paid holidays. Health insurance coverage possible after probationary period. One work from home day possible, ancillary perks (i.e. lunches, outings).
